Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition
Platform:
Nintendo Switch
Publisher:
BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT EUROPE S.A.S.
Released:
11 January 2019
Violence, Bad Language, Gambling
Advice for consumers
This game has been rated PEGI 12 for depictions of non-realistic looking violence towards human-like characters, depictions of realistic violence of a minor nature towards a human-like character, use of mild bad language, and moving images that encourage/teach the use of games of chance. Not suitable for persons under 12 years of age. Not suitable for persons below 12 years of age.
Brief outline of the game
Tales of Vesperia returns with remastered graphics including full voice acting and all DLCs.
Synopsis from the original game - Yuri sets sail on his adventure with Estelle, Karol, Rita, Raven, Judith, and Repede, and now two more playable characters join the fray!
Content-specific issues
This game contains frequent depictions of non-realistic looking violence towards human-like and fantasy characters. During combat bright lights and magical effects appear on impact of attacks, numbers also appear in the air showing the amount of damage inflicted with each attack. Characters have little to no reaction to the violence, with the exception of some pained grunts that can occasionally be heard. When an enemy character has been defeated, they fall to the floor with no visible injuries and quickly vanish. If the character who is defeated is a member of the players party, they will fall to the floor and remain there until either the battle ends or another party member revives them. This game also features infrequent scenes of realistic violence of a minor nature towards a human character. A girl hits a young boy over the head which causes him to react realistically by holding onto his head and showing a pained expression on his face. This game also contains infrequent use of mild bad language. Use of the word “bastard” can be found in the dialogue. This game also features moving images that encourage/teach the use of games of chance. During a section of the game the player is able to partake in a game of poker. The player must change up their money for chips which can then be used to bet on a game. The game contains detailed instructions on how to bet and play the game.

Violence
Advice for consumers
This game was rated PEGI 16 for frequent moderate violence. Not suitable for persons under 16 years of age.
Brief outline of the game
Japanese role-playing game. You play as Sorey, a young ‘Shepherd’ who has been blessed with magical powers in order to fight negative forces in the world, as demons spawn and war rages between two Empires.
Content-specific issues
The majority of realistic violence occurs during cut scenes. These usually feature knights fighting with swords, clubs and arrows on a battle field, with realistic gurgling sounds, blood splatters and death reactions. One is hit around the face, causing his neck to dislodge slightly with a cracking sound. A few villagers are killed by soldiers with swords and spears, and the dead bodies of others – including children – can be seen in some parts of the game.
Secondary issues/information
The majority of gameplay violence is non-realistic, featuring bright flashes and numbers showing damage. Humans show little reaction other than flinching or sliding backwards slightly when they are hit, or letting out a slight ‘augh’ sound. Words like ‘crap’ and ‘bastards’ are used infrequently in the game.

Released:
14 November 2014
Violence
Advice for consumers
This game was rated PEGI 16 for infrequent strong violence. Not suitable for persons under 16 years of age.
Brief outline of the game
Kor Meteor discovers the mysterious Kohaku washed up on the beach. In an attempt to help her, he mistakenly shatters her ‘Spiria’, or inner core, and sends it flying across the land. Kor and Kohaku set off to retrieve it, encountering friends, foes and battles along the way.
Content-specific issues
This game was given a PEGI 16 rating for very infrequent depictions of realistic violence towards humans. In one animated cut scene, a human-like robot is thrown into the air and impaled on a sword, which spears her to the wall. Though her reaction is not especially detailed, she reacts as a human would in real life, falling limp and dying.
Secondary issues/information
The majority of the violence in this game sits at a 12 level. Kor encounters numerous battles with a variety of human, animal and fantasy enemies, but their reactions are minimal and strikes feature bright flashes on impact. Their remains disappear once defeated. In the majority of cut scenes, violence is short and sharp, again with non-realistic reactions. For instance, characters are pushed to the floor, kicked or punched with no apparent or lasting injury.
Swearing and offensive language is frequent, but also at a mild level. Such words include, ‘ass’, ‘damn’, ‘hell’, ‘crap’, ‘pissed’, ‘bastard’ and variations of these words.
